Bad news coming from Aso Rock this afternoon has it that while WAEC candidates of other WAEC member states are taking the exam starting on 3rd August, 2020, Nigerian candidates may be exempted.
This development was made known by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, after the virtual Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday 8th July, 2020.
The Minister cited the prevailing rise in the covid19 curve as the motivation behind their decision which is targeted at keeping Nigerian students safe and alive.
This is bad news for students and stakeholders in education. Many states had already started making preparations to resume school for the exiting classes as initially announced. This, if carried out, will prove a major setback for the Nigerian education sector.
Will there be alternative arrangements for SS3 students? Will WAEC consider them for a supplementary examination?
What’s your take on this? Do you think the federal government is being proactive about students wellbeing and safety?
