WASSCE: Call meeting of West African nations

The Pan-Yoruba socio-social gathering, Afenifere, Thursday prompted the government to critically assemble a conference of West African nations, and the territorial assessment body, the West African Examination Council (WAEC), over the stalemate on 2020 West African Senior School Certification Examination (WASSCE).

The gathering said as opposed to denying the understudies a total meeting, the assessment can be overseen such that the strength of the understudies would not be undermined.

National Publicity Secretary of the gathering, Mr. Yinka Odumakin criticized the setting of the choice of the government to turn around the reviving of schools.

It would be reviewed that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, had reported the reviving of schools for understudies planning for essential 6, JSS 3 and SSS 3 assessments.

Based on the declaration, the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, on Monday, reported that the WASSCE would hold from August 3 to September 5.

However, on Wednesday, the Minister of Education, Mall. Adamu gave a counter order, saying schools would not revive anymore and that the WASSCE couldn’t hold for the present.

In any case, Afenifere was angry that the counter order by the training pastor was “one more motivation to realize that we are troubled with a broke down government in Nigeria.” Afenifere said since August 3 is still somewhat far, “Nigeria should assemble a conference of the West African nations included and WAEC to deal with the assessments in light of a legitimate concern for the understudies without trading off their wellbeing.

“This is the means by which the administration should race to show it thinks about the general population. The manner in which our authorities act is getting just excessively disgraceful. “We encourage Mr President to deal with his men so our understudies are not made to lose a meeting to the sense of self battles of our authorities,” Odumakin said in the announcement.
